Ingredients and Cooking Instructions For Classic Chili

Ingredients:

  • 1 to 1 1/2 pounds ground beef or turkey
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 to 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, diced onions, jalapeno slices

Instructions:

  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, cook the beef over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Add the onion, garlic, and green bell pepper to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the chili powder, cumin, oregano, paprika, and salt. Cook for 1 minute.
  4. Add the diced tomatoes, kidney beans, black beans, tomato sauce, and beef broth. Stir to combine.
  5. Bring the chili to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let simmer for 30 minutes to 1 hour, stirring occasionally, until the flavors have melded and the chili has thickened to your liking.
  6. Serve hot with desired toppings. Enjoy!
