Ingredients and Cooking Instructions For Classic Chili
Ingredients:
- 1 to 1 1/2 pounds ground beef or turkey
- 1 large onion, diced
- 2 to 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 2 to 3 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained
- 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 cup beef broth
- optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, diced onions, jalapeno slices
Instructions:
- In a large pot or Dutch oven, cook the beef over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.
- Add the onion, garlic, and green bell pepper to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the chili powder, cumin, oregano, paprika, and salt. Cook for 1 minute.
- Add the diced tomatoes, kidney beans, black beans, tomato sauce, and beef broth. Stir to combine.
- Bring the chili to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let simmer for 30 minutes to 1 hour, stirring occasionally, until the flavors have melded and the chili has thickened to your liking.
